In 2006 a swarm of bees landed in our garden at home. It was an amazing sight which I recorded. The event set me off on a journey, recording and drawing the many different types of bees in the UK, wanting to know more about their lives and the history of human interaction with them. the imagery has given me the starting point for a body of work and the opportunity to explore digital manufacturing processes, using the laser cutter to cut and draw with.
The images include photographs of bees from the collections at the Booth Museum in Brighton. Images have been laser engraved into different materials exploring the potential and possibilities of the process. Ideas for new vessel forms and shapes are developing form this work, exploring the laser and other digital processes.
